Murder Monday Vol. 1: DEADLY FRIEND

Monday, May 18th, 2009

I don’t know about you, but I sure do love horror movie deaths; especially the ones that don’t require the use of a mouse or pixel blood, so I figured that I’d post a new one every Monday to jump start your day. This weekend was a big weekend for horror movie death. The best came from Wes Craven’s underrated DEADLY FRIEND. Now, don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a Wes Craven friend. He has REALLY fallen off, but then again…was he really ever on? He’s had like three movies that were good out of over 20…and I’m not counting the porn he did before LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. Maybe those are good, dunno though. Regardless, none of that can take away from how badass this kill is from DEADLY FRIEND….and yes, I do count DEADLY FRIEND as one of the three good movies he has done.

IWA King of the Deathmatch ‘95

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

A friend and I have begun to watch all of the WWF Wrestlemanias. Tonight we finished watching Wrestlemania 2 and besides the Terry Funk/ Dory Funk Jr. tag team match, it was pretty weak. It got me to thinking how much I always enjoyed watching Terry Funk wrestling Mick Foley. Foley was a HUGE part of my teenage years. I was kind of obsessed. I called into radio shows to talk to him, went to every appearance he made in the Kansas City area and, of course, bought every book he wrote (they’re really great.). One of the happiest days my 8th grade year was when I got a catalog in the mail that had the IWA King of the Deathmatch 1995 tape in it. Holy shit! I begged my mom so I could do a phone order with her credit card so I didn’t have to wait the two weeks to do a money order. When I got that tape, it was a life changer. What I saw was REALLY mind blowing. Definitely one of the best matches he ever participated in. Sure, I saw LOTS of deathmatches coming out of Japan, but he always added something special to whatever he touched…especially these. I found the main event of the IWA King of the Deathmatch tournament on YouTube today and figured I’d share it with all of you. If you’re at work…don’t watch this. If you have a girlfriend and she’s in the room or you’re about to eat anything…don’t watch this.

Mick Foley, I love you.

Deadly Spawn Shirts For Sale!

Monday, May 11th, 2009

When we paired one of our favorite movies with one of our favorite artists (Jon Vermilyea), we had no idea that this shirt would’ve came to be so nuts! One of the best movies you’ve never heard of, THE DEADLY SPAWN has one of the BEST looking monsters in movie history. Now you can wear this eating machine and spread the word. Available now in Asphalt and Eggplant, wear this to the next horror convention and stand above the rest.

Here is the trailer to THE DEADLY SPAWN:

And speaking of horror conventions, I attended Texas Frightmare a few weekends ago and got my picture taken with Dick Miller. Coincidentally, I was wearing the new DEADLY SPAWN shirt so you can get a good look of it in action!

P.S. Fuck it…why not? I like this movie so much that I actually got it tattooed on me. It’s an obsession!

Hey You! We’re back!

Monday, May 11th, 2009

It’s been a while since I’ve done a post. With the Cinemapocalypse tour going on and then other projects cooking, I haven’t had much time to do much posting. I have been twittering though. You can follow us at www.twitter.com/mondonews. If you would’ve been following us there, you would’ve known that we put the remaining metal variant Tyler Stout Robocop posters up for sale. If you want one, you better do it now because we have like one or two left and then they are GONE.

We did a ton of stuff on the Cinemapocalypse tour and I know it’s kinda late, but I figured I’d give a quick top ten of things we saw, learned or did…in no particular order.

1. While driving to the theater in San Francisco, I saw a dog peeing on another dog.

2. In San Francisco, packs of wild nudes roam free in the streets.

3. Unknowingly, I offered to eat Sissy Spacek’s leftover food in LA.

4. Roswell, NM isn’t a fun town like you’d think it would be.

5. Phoenix is the weirdest place in the U.S. Within five minutes, we took the famous black wrestling picture, watched a newscast about exploding rodents and a fir tree growing in a guys lung and talked to a junkie who was on a mission from God to find a VHS copy of HOWARD THE DUCK. No joke.

6. Clu Gulager is one of the nicest guys you could possibly meet.

7. Eddie Deezen isn’t acting. He’s playing himself…and that’s a very good thing!

8. The three of us looked like junkies the way we were digging through boxes of VHS tapes in a small town McDonalds parking lot. The guy promised us 17,000 videos, but was off by 16,800.

9. Unfortunately, comic book back issues and video stores are becoming  things of the past.

10. At one point during the trip, Zack and Lars somehow convinced me that if you used the urinal in this weird little town and there was a man in the stall beside you, he’d try to reach over and grab your penis. I must’ve been tired because I believed them.
