We are packed with cool new products for sale today. If you weren’t in Austin for Fantastic Fest, now is your chance to grab these goodies!
Tonight, we are having our first ever live screen printing show called HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER with artist Jon Vermilyea in attendance. We will be letting people design their own t-shirts in store and decided that we would extend the offer to our online fanbase as well. Below is a preview of what you can expect at the show!

Mix and match the monster heads and bodies to create your own one of a kind t-shirt. This is only going to be available until 9:30pm CST, so don’t let this chance slip by!
Next up is the GORGEOUS David D’Andrea ANTICHRIST poster that was made specially for Fantastic Fest 2009 this year.

Poster by David D’ Andrea. 12″x26″ screen print. $30 Edition of 100.
Ken Taylor is back with his take on Medusa from CLASH OF THE TITANS!

Poster by Ken Taylor. 24″x36″ screen print. $30 Edition of 110.

We also have the Medusa’s stare variant with glow in the dark eyes and teeth for $55. Edition of 40.
To go along with the poster, Skinner has produced this CRAZY Medusa shirt. He had emailed me about doing it and then a few days later I got a painting in the mail from him with the artwork! This shirt is printed on a super soft ringspun t-shirt. Available on a black and creme shirt.

In a few hours, I’m going to stop watching Fantastic Fest films long enough to go pick up Jon Vermilyea who will be our special guest tomorrow at HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER!

In case you haven’t heard, Mondo will be having PRINT+addiction out with a mobile screen printing set up to silk screen shirts LIVE in the store from 6pm-10pm. Bring your own shirts, bags or whatever else you want because, like Burger King, we’ll let you have it your way. Jon has been busting his ass making original illustrations for the show that you can actually customize! Swap a swamp monster head for a mutated baby one and a crab body for a bat one! That’s right! You can actually take the head off of one monster and put it on the body of another to make the ghoul or demon of your choice! Not only will we be screening in store, but Jon will also have merchandise and original artwork for sale including this years Fantastic Fest poster illustration!
See you there!

We have got three classics up for sale today! The first is by Aaron Horkey:

DEAD MAN by Aaron Horkey $110
Aaron Horkey’s take on Dead Man is a 7″ x 16.5″ giclee with letterpress filigree. This print was produced in the style of a period advertisement piece for the film and a nod to Mr. Blake’s own publishing efforts. It was printed on 505gsm Somerset Velvet 100% cotton acid-free paper by the fine folks at Graham Editions and Bieler Press. Signed and numbered by Horkey himself in an edition of 58.

SIXTEEN CANDLES by Jay Ryan $30
Who cares about a star on the Walk of Fame…John Hughes should have his name etched in the moon for creating the character of Long Duk Dong. Brilliant! Anthony Michael Hall was also at his coolest in this Hughes masterpiece!

THE BREAKFAST CLUB by Jay Ryan $30
John Hughes made movies that truly connected with a generation and The Breakfast Club was undoubtedly one of his best. This movie deals with three things that we all have in common. We all went to high school, all most likely did a stint in detention and we all probably wanted to date one of the cast members of this movie at one point. I’m looking at you Ally Sheedy.

I Had A Problem: We recently had some electrical work done to our house, and ended up with a huge hole in the sheetrock in our computer room. I’m not handy enough to fix it myself, and am self-aware enough to know that my laziness/cheapness will keep me from hiring someone to fix it any time soon:
 The Problem
I Had A Solution: And really, it’s my solution to 50%-60% of life’s problems… let’s Cynthia Rothrock it:
 The Solution
Problem solved! Not only do I get to ignore my sheetrock deficiency, I’ll be able to enjoy Cynthia Rothrock’s Ever-Poised Boot of Doom every time I check my email.
And this isn’t the first time my Martial Law II: Undercover (1992) poster (Available On Videocassette and Laserdisc) has saved me from an unsightly wall blemish. In 2006 I used this same poster to replace a wall-sized mirror in my home bathroom that had decided to spontaneously shatter:
Is There Nothing Cynthia Rothrock Can't Make Better?
That particular bit of home improvement lasted 3 months. I’ll keep you posted on how long Ms. Rothrock lasts this time around.

Mondo is proud to announce new merchandise, new posters and our first live screen printing event going down this year at Fantastic Fest 5!

A lot of you have written and asked about the artist behind this year’s Fantastic Fest shirt and poster. Well, that man is Jon Vermilyea and we’ve decided to bring him to you LIVE at Mondo’s first ever screen printing event entitled HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER. This live screen printing extravaganza will take place on Tuesday September 29th from 6-10pm at Mondo in the lobby of the Alamo Drafthouse S. Lamar. A mobile screen printing set up will be packed with original designs by Jon where you can actually mix and match different monster heads and bodies to make your very own monster. Shirts will be available for purchase, but feel free to bring articles of clothing, bags, paper or whatever else you want to get screen printed with our one of a kind monsters. Jon will also have original works available for sale such as the original Fantastic Fest 5 poster art!

Grotesque. Nightmarish. Gorgeous. All of these adjectives have been applied to Lars Von Trier’s new film ANTICHRIST. The same can also be said of Mondo’s exclusive limited edition ANTICHRIST poster. Artist David D’Andrea has produced something that truly captures the madness and beauty of this highly controversial film debuting in the US for the first time at Fantastic Fest!

Mondo will also be putting this years Fantastic Fest merchandise up for sale to attendees. Some of the highlights include glow in the dark shirts and the very special 3D Fantastic Fest poster by the aforementioned Jon Vermilyea! Mondo isn’t spilling all of the beans as to what’s happening at Fantastic Fest 5. We will have lots of surprises going down in-store with product releases, so come and check us out!

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet the legendary actress Barbara Steele, and spent a few minutes talking with her about her performance in the Mario Bava masterpiece LA MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO (1960), better known in the United States as BLACK SUNDAY.
Over the years, several stunning posters have been created to promote this film. Given that today is Sunday (and a particularly dreary one… at least in my neck of the woods), I thought it would be fun to toss up four of my favorites (click on any of the posters for much larger versions):
LA MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO - Italian Artwork
 BLACK SUNDAY - U.S. Artwork
 LA MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO
 LA MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO
The first version is my favorite of the four. Although I haven’t been able to track down an original one-sheet with that artwork (and doubt I’d be able to afford it even if I could), Ms. Steele graciously agreed to autograph a smaller high-quality reproduction for me:
Black Sunday - Autographed With Love By Barbara Steele
Youtube has a 20-second teaser for the film, as well as a longer trailer under the alternate title THE MASK OF SATAN.
Any fellow fans of Mario Bava and/or Barbara Steele? Let us know in the comments.

Mondo is proud to present the newest entry into our movie shirt line, the I Massacre Texas shirt!

We get requests for Texas themed shirts all of the time and didn’t want to do the typical reworking of the KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD logo, so we went and aped that famous recalled JASON TAKES MANHATTAN poster and replaced Jason with Texas’ own maniacal serial killer.

Don’t give New York all of your love, buy your I Massacre Texas shirt now in BLACK or WHITE.

I don’t know what it was, but last week I stumbled upon several amazing things. Some were food related, some merchandise related…all awesome! Check them out!
PIE SLICE BAKERY!!!!!

Dammit, I’m not a thin man and learning about PIE SLICE BAKERY pretty much sealed the deal for me staying that way. To make things worse, it’s like two blocks away from Mondo….and it’s on the way to work! Not only do they have insane baked goods like cupcakes, cheese cake and, well, pies…they also have breakfast tacos and pizza! Seriously, I’ll probably be hitting this place up at least 2 times a week as it has become my new favorite restaurant in town!
Check out their website HERE and go get some pie!
SCARECROW VIDEO!!!!!

Scarecrow Video itself isn’t new to me, but their blog is! I’ve been there several times and have lots of friends that work there, but had no idea they were kings of the blogosphere! One post in particular really blew me away. It broke down every movie that even remotely influenced Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. You can read it HERE. I don’t know about you, but when KILL BILL came out, I loved watching the movies that he took inspiration from. Now, thanks to Scarecrow, I can do the same thing with BASTERDS. So, before you go see it again, you can have a mini marathon to get you pumped to blow some Nazi’s away!
ALEX PARDEE AND THE SCARED FRIENDS!!!!!
Look it up on Wikipedia…it’s a fact. ALEX PARDEE IS COOL AS FUCK. Just when I thought this guy couldn’t get any cooler, I get this pic in my email from Mitch Putnam.

Click on the picture to read the full story from Pardee, but to summarize, some crazy dude at his Upper Playground Seattle show came with a razor and started gashing himself across the stomach and wrists spraying blood all over the place. After swearing a lot and saying “no way” out loud over and over again, I went to ZeroFriends and grabbed his SCARED FRIENDS shirt in blue.

In case you don’t remember, Pardee is the mega-horror fan/ super-artist who destroyed the RE-ANIMATOR poster we released in July.

You can also see it hanging in the background of the picture with him posing behind the blood!
A digital high five goes out to this guy for being the worlds biggest BASKET CASE fan and for cheating death! We at Mondo salute you!
