A fan on our Twitter account remembered how obsessed I am with the classic HBO intro from the 80′s-90′s and sent me a link to the behind the scenes look of how much attention to detail and dedication went into the making of it. At certain points of this video I was fist pumping in the air…I think it was when they mentioned that each car had individual headlights and the shot of the guy using tweezers to insert a tiny little bush into a tiny little pot. Every aspect of this is fascinating….from how they shot it, to how they created the swirling colors on the “O,” to how they molded the town. Watch and really, truly marvel at genius at work.

i was born in 1975 and i def remember this intro, and seeing the making of special as to how they made it. thanks for sharing this, what a trip down memory lane.
I remember this as well, before Fraggle Rock, etc, I believe. Reminds me of the intro to the ‘Burbs, brilliant intermingling of the Universal logo. This video was pretty awesome. A definite trip down memory lane. The song ‘Illusions’ that plays throughout just got added to my ipod (worst tracks ever playlist).

Got a kick out of the “state of the art” computer at the 8:15 mark, I think that’s a Commodore 64.
Good times, I was about 10 when I first saw this intro. The memories of cable tv in the early 80s.
