Mondo Presents: STAR WARS! Great Warrior By Todd Slater On Sale Now!

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Today we are proud to present the newest entry into our STAR WARS poster series, YODA aka Great Warrior!

Poster by Todd Slater. 17″x24″ screen print. Hand numbered and signed by the artist. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 385. Click HERE to buy.

Todd provided a little insight into why he decided to design Yoda in this manner:

“From the first time that I saw Star Wars, I was captivated by the mystery of Yoda’s species and home world.  For Yoda, Dagobah was a place to disappear, and I see him as being at one with the landscape.  For this print I wanted to camouflage him as a part of this murky planet using leaves, sticks, ferns and other flora found in the swamps.  The image is printed on black paper with a shiny black varnish layer in the background.  The varnished layer reveals even more of Dagobah and is shown as a transparency through Yoda’s face.
The kanji (japanese characters) on the left side gives one word representations of the six stages I identified in Luke’s Jedi training: the meeting of a great warrior, the discovery of a Jedi’s strength, entering of a domain of evil, learning that size matters not, seeing the future and finally, the confrontation of Vader.

The screen print is seven colors, which is the most I’ve done to date.”

Photos hardly do this piece justice as it is amazing in person, but here are some detailed pics of the actual piece…

We’ve Been Framed: Tribbles And Space Seed

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

James sent this picture in and it immediately went to the top of the We’ve Been Framed queue. How amazing is his collection?!

James found out about our new Trek series and gave his Trekkie seal of approval by buying them and hanging them with his collection of screen worn uniforms. James also sent a link to his blog where he documents his amazing collection. I highly recommend checking it out which you can do HERE and HERE.

If you have a picture you’d like featured by We’ve Been Framed, send it to Justin@MondoTees.com.

Thanks James!

F*ck You Times Two

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

As I type this, we are stuck in West Virginia at a Hampton Inn waiting for the Roadshow truck to get worked on and I saw everyone talking about the new Cee-Lo Green song called FUCK YOU. If you haven’t heard it yet, here it is:

It’s pretty good, but I couldn’t help but think of my FAVORITE song called FUCK YOU. This particular performance is from a documentary called MONDO NEW YORK and the band is called DEAN AND THE WEENIES. The lead singer Dean Johnson is incredibly interesting and when he passed, WFMU did a nice piece about him which you can read HERE. One of my favorite parts is a quote from an interview did with Next Magazine in ’98:

“I did this song called ‘Fuck You’ in the film Mondo New York. From that I was able to get a recording contract with Island Records. When they realized I was a gay activist and a drag queen, they freaked out and found an excuse to dump me. They released my record in an unmarked brown paper wrapper and said they were dumping me because the album wouldn’t sell. They printed out thousands of CDs of ‘Fuck You’ and then dumped them into a dumpster behind the Island offices. Homeless people pulled them out of the garbage and sold them for a dollar on St. Mark’s and it became a huge phenomenon. That’s how I really established myself as a performer back in 1987.”

How times have changed. One dude’s song got popular by homeless people selling it for a buck and one got his song known by retweets on Twitter. The future is here.

Which one do you like better?

Mondo Presents: STAR WARS! Hoth By Dan McCarthy On Sale Now!

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Today’s release marks the fourth offering in our ongoing series with Lucasfilm. We are proud to present to you, Dan McCarthy’s HOTH…

Poster by Dan McCarthy. 12″x36″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 475. Click HERE to buy.

Dan McCarthy is well known for prints that depict vast landscapes, but more importantly, he’s great at conveying mood. For this reason, we thought he’d be perfect for the scene on Hoth in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK where the Probe Droids infiltrate the Rebel defenses and alert the Empire to their whereabouts. Notice the streaks in the sky as they enter the atmosphere…this is literally the calm before the storm.

We were thrilled to work with Dan and think this is an amazing submission for the series. Keep an eye on the site as we will be having more coming at you soon!

Scott Pilgrim Posters By Martin Ansin On Sale Now!

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Yesterday we announced that we had worked with Universal on posters for Edgar Wright’s new film, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. We showed you the regular, which I will show you again, here…

Poster by Martin Ansin. 24″x36″ screen print w/ metallic inks. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 415. Click HERE to buy.

What we didn’t show, but definitely teased was that we were going to have a variant poster to this one for sale at the Alamo’s cast screening last night. Well, here it is! We present to you, the NEGA SCOTT VARIANT!

Poster by Martin Ansin. 24″x36″ screen print w/ metallic inks. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 140. Click HERE to buy.

I won’t go too much into what Nega Scott is as it could spoil the movie for some, but if you’ve already seen the movie or read the Oni Press books, you know what’s going on with him and how cool it is. To further sweeten the deal, I took several posters over to the cast for them to sign. So, if you order a variant, you may just get a signed poster from the cast that showed up last night which included Edgar Wright, Michael Cera, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anna Kendrick. We know that not all of our fans are in Austin and that making it to events isn’t always (if ever) possible, so we wanted to do something special for those of you that couldn’t be there. Hope this is sufficient!

It was a crazy fun event and the movie is amazing, so definitely go and check it out this weekend. I’m on my way to the Joliet Prison right now for THE BLUES BROTHERS Rolling Roadshow screening, so if you are coming to the show, stop by and say hey.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Poster On Sale Info!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Mondo is very happy to announce that we have teamed up with Universal to create two special posters for Edgar Wright’s new epic, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD!

We got Martin Ansin to put this together and, like with all of his posters, it came out awesome. If you were paying attention in the opening line, you would remember that I said that we did two posters. Well, let me be super specific and say that the second is a variant to this poster. The catch is, I won’t be showing it to you today. We will have it on sale tonight at the AIN’T IT COOL NEWS/ FANTASTIC FEST screening in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and if you head down to Mondo, you’ll not only be able to see it, but you’ll be able to buy one and take it home with you. We printed a super limited run, so we expect them to move fast. If there are any left, both them and the regular edition you see above will be on sale tomorrow at a random time. We’re going to try and set up some special surprises for all of you non-Austinites who can’t make it to the show, so stay tuned to the blog and our TWITTER for all of the on sale announcements.

ZOMBIE By Jeff Proctor On Sale Now!

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I bet you all thought that because we’re in Los Angeles getting ready for the Rolling Roadshow tour, we’d take a week off. No way! Today we are very excited to release our newest print for Lucio Fulci’s classic ZOMBI 2 aka ZOMBIE! Also, just in time for SHARK WEEK!

ZOMBIE by Jeff Proctor. 24″x36″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 190. Click HERE to buy.

This is the first time we’ve worked with Proctor and it definitely won’t be the last. We’re ecstatic that he decided to go with the EPIC Zombie vs. Shark scene from the film. Truly, without a doubt, it is one of the most unbeleivable scenes not just in a horror movie, but in ANY movie.

These went on sale last night at the Terror Tuesday screening and we sold a bunch, so expect these to go quickly.
