Poster by Martin Ansin. 24″x 36″ screen print w/ metallic inks. Hand numbered. Edition of 150. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Click HERE to buy.

Martin had this to say about the design:

“I’ve always liked that scene in Reign Of Fire where these post-apocalyptic survivors re-enact Star Wars scenes for their children; in the future, the stories that we really like have become legends. For this poster I tried to do something similar, but in the opposite direction in time. I wanted to see how the cantina scene would look if it had been illustrated for an old book, if Star Wars was a traditional epic adventure sharing space with King Arthur and Beowulf. Who knows, maybe sometime in the future it will.”

These posters look great in person and here are some detailed pictures of the actual pieces.

The variant was printed with silver metallic inks. ALL OF THE INKS were printed metallic so this poster really shines.

Mondo Presents: STAR WARS! Attack Position by Rich Kelly On Sale Now!

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Rich Kelly is back and he brings us our newest offering in the STAR WARS series…Attack Position!

Poster by Rich Kelly. 24″x 36″ screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 400. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Click HERE to buy.

Rich had this to say about his design:

When I was approached with this project, a considerable amount of artistic liberty was encouraged. After re-watching the original trilogy and observing how Chewbacca interacted with the rest of the characters, I realized that on more than one occasion he was basically used for comic relief with Han. Even during some of the battle scenes he seems to be fumbling around a bit. As a kid, I definitely remember thinking of him as a major force to be reckoned with. Therefore, I decided I wanted to depict “Chewie” as one bad dude; kicking ass and taking names. Endor came to mind as an appropriate environment, with Chewbacca gliding down a fallen tree, about to attack a couple of unsuspecting storm troopers.

This will definitely go down as one of my favorites as I love Kelly’s style. Some people have compared him to Bill Plympton in the past, but I really think Rich’s work stands on its own merit. We are also beginning to get into the major characters and Chewbacca is undoubtedly one of the most important in the STAR WARS Universe. This poster is on sale know but if you miss it online, we’ll have a few for the Austin crowd in the store.
