Rob Jones’ King’s Lead Hat On Sale Now!

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Today is the second to last poster in our officially licensed project with Lucasfilm and we’re honored that the GRAMMY NOMINATED DESIGNER Rob Jones could provide a design. We present to you, King’s Lead Hat!

Poster by Rob Jones. 24″x36″ screen print w/ metallic inks. Signed and numbered by the artist. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 255. Click HERE to buy.

Here is what Rob had to say about the poster:

“There’s a scene in Star Wars where Grand Moff Tarkin strides into his council room on the Death Star announcing the dissolution of the Imperial Senate. His officers express concern over the Emperor’s ability to maintain control of star systems without this governing body. To this Tarkin retorts, ‘Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.’

This exchange made me consider the motivation behind the Emperor’s construction of Darth Vader. I’m not referring to just the cybernetic bits maintaining Vader’s body but also the active manipulation of his mind to bring him to the dark side. The Emperor created in Vader a weapon no different from the Death Star in its ultimate purpose, a means of generating fear amongst the vast populace he ruled. An administrative tool that became the executor of the Emperor’s cruel commands. With that in mind, I decided to depict Vader as a facility harnessing and directing his immense natural power towards malicious ends.”

A Message To The Fans….

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

I just wanted to hit everyone with an update and say that we’re sorry for any user experience issues with the site during the Olly Moss sale earlier this week. It was the most in demand release we’ve ever had and it brought a lot of new people into the Mondo world. We posted a blog post last week explaining how the checkout process worked, but I feel that it’s helpful to provide more detail, especially in regards to what we’re doing to improve your experience.

1. I handle putting things on sale online and have a system that I use every time. I send a newsletter first, then put the item up for sale, followed by a blog post and then tweet/ facebook. With the Olly Moss release, as I clicked on sale, it instantly sold out and by the time I could tweet, it was too late. So, for everyone upset about there not being a tweet, I apologize. It was my mistake. I just want to assure everyone that this was an isolated instance and I’ll do my best to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. Once again, I apologize. We’re going to keep the current system on how we alert you to the print being on sale, but with one exception. An newsletter will be sent out the day prior to a release instead of the day of. We’ve found that the emails are hitting spam folders or getting to some customers after the print goes on sale and it’s not a good way to announce something. We will still be doing a blog post and Twitter/ Facebook announcements.

2. When a huge release really tests our site, we are able to look at that data and make improvements. Earlier this year, we had a full blown meltdown on the WOLFMAN release and took steps to improve the site. Since then, the site has performed well. The Olly Moss release brought in never before seen traffic for us and now that the dust has settled, we can make improvements. I have been talking to our web developers since the release and we have already begun making changes to the site. We’ve even bought another server to accompany our already dedicated one, so everything should run smoother in the future. Problems can always arise, but we do our best to keep them to a minimum.

3. We are making a change to how we show you upcoming releases. Earlier this year, we started to debut the posters on a popular website and then we would create an item page for it on our site. This was to let you have a place to prepare for and refresh for the drop. We will no longer be putting the item pages up in advance, but will now be putting the images up on the main page of the site and when the item finally goes on sale, we will activate the links to the items in the store page. We tried this out on the TRUE GRIT release earlier today and feel that this will give everyone more of a fair chance to score a print.

Mondo is a company that truly cares about 1. the products we make and 2. the people who are buying the products. Your tweets, emails and posts on forums are greatly appreciated and we constantly strive to make the site function the best it possibly can to ensure fans will get a chance to buy their favorite prints. We take each one into consideration and are constantly trying to improve and make the experience more enjoyable. Feel free to leave us comments below or to email us directly.

How Things Work At Mondo Redux

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Hey Everyone. Justin here to kind of do a recap of how things work when you’re actually ordering posters from us on high traffic sale days. We had a TON of people sign up for the site with this TRON release today and we got a lot of emails like this from angry fans:

Hi,
I had called and left a message earlier, however, you guys don’t open until 5pm, but I was messaging to make a complaint about my transaction earlier. Earlier today at 12:30-12:31 pm I hopped on MondoTees from my cell phone, added the original Tron poster to my cart, went through all the shipping and billing address stuff and after clicking next I was given an Out of Stock page, which baffled me. After refreshing the page and receiving another Twitter notification from MondoNews, sure enough, I was just jacked out of a purchase. Normally, I wouldn’t give a shit enough to bitch about it, however, I know how quick these sell and how much they resell for on eBay and this was supposed to be a gift for my girlfriend, as she loves the original Tron movie completely. I’m extremely pissed off, moreso at the fact that by adding a product to my cart, I feel it should be reserved, as I lingered on that page for about an hour, hoping to be one of the first to buy this poster. Apparently, the servers being blown up and my 3g network screwed me out of that. I would like to still purchase one of these posters and if you look at my previous purchases, there aren’t many, but I’ve always been a beyond satisfied customer and still hope to continue to shop here. I’m just hoping you can compensate me for this situation, as this issue was created on your end. Thank you for the time, and I apologize for the bitchiness, it’s just the holiday season, it’s stressful, and I was looking forward to this since it leaked a couple days ago.

This fan was mad, that’s clear and it’s TOTALLY understandable. Guys, I’m a collector, too. I collect toys, comics, shoes, all kinds of stuff and I fight just like you to get rare, collectible, LIMITED stuff online. I know how it feels when you don’t get what you want, especially when you’ve been refreshing and waiting for hours. The main thing I want to point out in the above message is this line:

“by adding a product to my cart, I feel it should be reserved”

This is false. There are TONS of reasons why you, the fan, don’t want this to happen. If you really want me to go into them, I’d be glad to drop a few in the comments, but the main point is that if you have something in your cart, it’s not yours until you make it through the checkout process and pay for it. I’m trying to keep this short and sweet as we have A LOT to do for the bunch of releases coming up before the end of the year, but since we do have a bunch of great stuff coming out, I thought I should make this crystal clear.

If you have any questions, hit me up in the comments or shoot me an email. Justin@MondoTees.com

Tron and Tron: Legacy Posters On Sale Now!

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Today, we are proud to announce that we are now collaborating with our friends at Sideshow Collectibles on several different licensed projects with Disney’s Tron and Tron: Legacy being the first. Here they are! We present to you, Eric Tan’s posters for TRON and TRON: LEGACY!

Poster by Eric Tan. 16″x24″ screen print w/ glow in the dark inks. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 240. Click HERE to buy.

Poster by Eric Tan. 16″x24″ screen print w/ glow in the dark inks. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 240. Click HERE to buy.

Eric had this to say about the posters:

“When creating posters for each of the ‘Tron’ films, what immediately came to mind were the parallels between the two worlds and how it had progressed over the years. Since similar elements such as disks, light cycles, and recognizers exist in both, I thought showing the contrast between new and old was a visually interesting angle to play up. Linking the two main characters was something I thought would add to the storytelling and the father/son dynamic between Kevin and Sam Flynn. To me, those films are amazing examples of visual ‘candy,’ and I hope I was able to capture that in my posters.”

Needless to say, I think Eric nailed these. You also won’t believe how cool these look when glowing. Something else you won’t believe are the projects we have lined up with Sideshow Collectibles. We have been buying stuff from Sideshow for YEARS and it’s so cool that we’re finally in cahoots with them. If you would like to read the official press release about our team up, click HERE, but let me just say that this is a very, very good thing. We are working with them on several projects in 2011 and these TRON posters are just the very tip of the collectible iceberg. Mondo will be selling the regular edition and if a variant exists (as is the case with these TRON posters), Sideshow will be selling it on their site at a later date. We can’t say much more now, but keep an eye on our Twitter and this blog for more announcements soon.

Star Wars Greedo and Blade 2 Posters On Sale Now!

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

We have some incredible posters for sale today. Up first is Florian Bertmer’s HAN SHOT FIRST…

Poster by Florian Bertmer. 24″x34″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Edition of 400. Click HERE to buy.

Florian did an amazing job and included LOTS of detail. If you check out his blog, he has some great pics up of his progress on the poster. Check them out HERE. Everything involving this print took a LOT of care and time. Florian did extensive research on the cantina members and the separations took something like 70 hours. It is stunning in person and is the same amount of colors as Ken Taylor’s Bounty Hunter prints we put out earlier this year. If you have cable, check out G4′s Attack of the Show today as they will be giving one away.

Next up, we have the first posters for our new director series with Guillermo Del Toro in BLADE 2 by Mike Sutfin.

Poster by Mike Sutfin. 24″x36″ screen print on silver metallic paper. Signed and Numbered by the artist. Printed by Monolith. Edition of 175. Click HERE to buy.

We also have a variant….

Poster by Mike Sutfin. 24″x36″ screen print. Signed and Numbered by the artist. Printed by Monolith. Edition of 75. Click HERE to buy.

We are very excited about this series and the upcoming posters we’ll be releasing from it. We’ve had these posters in for a while and they are stunning in person. Take a look at some detail pics I shot of the actual posters. The regular is printed on a metallic silver paper. It’s the first time we’ve ever used it and it probably won’t be the last.
