This is exciting stuff… We are pleased to announce that we have created two new posters for Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL. First, check out Ken Taylor’s masterful illustration of a young Clark during simpler times…

Poster by Martin Ansin
Dimensions: 24″x36″
Edition: Regular edition TBD ; 130 (Metal Variant)
Price: $50 (Regular) ; $300 (Metal Variant)

Info on Ken’s poster is above and will be limited. Martin’s, on the other hand, will have a limited edition METAL VARIANT available this Friday, June 14th at a random time, but the regular edition will be sold via timed sale. We’ve only done this one other time and you guys seemed to like it, so here it is offered up to you. We only like to do this for special occasions and we think this qualifies…

Here’s how it will all work:

We will put the poster on sale for 3 days. We will start the sale at 12:01AM CST on Friday, June 14th and the sale will be open until 12:01AM on Monday, June 17th. No purchasing limits. No sold out tweets. You will have a full 72 hours (3 days) to buy this. The edition will be determined by how many are sold in that amount of time. After that, the edition will be closed, printed and never reprinted again. We will let you guys know via Twitter on Monday what it came out to. Please note that we are located in Austin, TX and are operating on central standard time. So, it’s midnight according to our local, Austin, TX time zone.

A few rules and regulations:

First: These posters will not BEGIN shipping until the end of July. The 29th to be exact. We would like to be fully transparent about this and explain why: We will be coming right off our upcoming gallery show, followed by San Diego Comic-Con and would like to be realistic about how quickly D&L, our printer, can handle this demand. Also, we are currently in the process of moving into a new fulfillment space which will make shipping ultimately move more quickly and efficiently. Both of these variables are large enough to effect the timetable of shipping. Please remember July 29th is the start date for shipping this poster. Since we won’t know the exact size of the edition until after the weekend is over and the sale concludes, we will then make an announcement in regards to estimated shipping times at a later date.

Second: Incredibly, Martin created this poster only using 6 colors. There are some who experienced some issues with our previous timed edition print, and it gave natural cause for alarm that printing in such high volume leads to a lack of quality control. We want to be clear this is NOT the case moving forward. While there is more opportunity for error in this department, please understand that we will do our best to ensure that nothing leaves our facility that we wouldn’t hang on our walls. If for some reason you do receive a print that you are dissatisfied with, we will replace it accordingly. Receiving something less than your expectations is devastating after a long wait, but please understand that sometimes mistakes happen and we are more than accountable for them. Please contact us at if this issue does occur.

Third: We will not be combining shipping on MAN OF STEEL with ANYTHING else. Please understand this is for a variety of reasons, but mostly so that the regular shipping queue is not effected by this singular drop. We will not accept any requests for this. Do not be afraid to e-mail us for other shipping related inquiries, or specifications, but combined shipping requests for Martin Ansin’s MAN OF STEEL will not be accommodated.

Okay, I think that covers it. If you guys have ANY questions about this, e-mail us at We hope that you all are as excited about this as we are. Martin and Ken nailed the poster and Zack Snyder has made one hell of a movie. Let us know what you think!

Just a head’s up, we do ship international. Normal shipping rates apply: $15 domestic, $25 Canada and $32 international.

          1. Ramone

I, too, took her to mean the pose. I can’t imagine anyone “owns” a realistic style of illustration. Still, a “Mondo, after Ross” style credit would remove all controversy.

          2. Dave

How could Lisa NOT be commenting on the pose when they’re exactly the same? Art styles are less proprietary and one would expect that an illustrator like Ansin would be inspired by Ross and therefore produce work that shares a certain, and similar quality. Poses and composition on the other hand are more ownable and it’s probably more frowned upon to reproduce. She was commenting on the pose. If she wasn’t, then there’s no case to be made. A lot of illustrators have overlapping styles.

        1. Lisa Gerrard

I’m not talking about the pose. Look at the upper hand. That’s a swipe. If he had put “Ansin after Ross” in the signature, it would have been fine. As it is, it’s not cool. I’m assuming, based on the composition, Mr. Ansin is a capable-enough artist, so why not come up with something original instead of stealing what Ross already did?

      1. Tom

Agreed. When I saw that print before reading the description, I actually thought they got Alex Ross to make a set of prints. Though I have to say I personally like Martin Ansin’s version way better, its hard not to noticed the striking similarities (especially the rendering/pose of the hands).

And you Kal-El shall hang next to last years Batman timed release on my newly declared Worlds Finest of Mondo wall.

  3. Robert

    Wow! These are spectacular.
    Little confused though –

-Will both Ken’s and Martin’s be available for 3 days starting on the 14th? Or is that just for Ken’s?

-Is Martin’s “Metal Variant” just the different color scheme or is actually printed on metal or something?

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Martin’s will be the Timed Edition. Ken’s edition size is listed on the blog.

Martin’s Metal is actually printed on Metal.

  4. Gregg

Please, forgive my ignorance. When you say “Metal Variant”, what exactly does that mean? Is that just the way it’s painted, to look like metal, or is it actually printed on sheet metal?

  5. Joe

Last sentence in the post, “Just a head’s up, we do ship international. Normal shipping rates apply: $15 domestic, $25 Canada and $32 international.”
So this is true for the metal print as well?

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Metal shipping is still being calculated. It is looking like International shipping on Metal will be $75. We will announce official shipping prices in our newsletter on Thursday.

  6. andrew

Stoked about the ansin… love the idea and will give me a chance to get my first. Mondo and my first ansin…might get afew for friends…

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Jason, The metal version will go on sale on Friday at a random time. The Taylor pieces will go on sale on Thursday at a random time.

  7. Adam

So the regular Ansin goes on sale Thurs or Fri? Bit confused with all the metal talk. Thx! Man I hope I get one.

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Adam, the Ansin Timed Edition will go on sale Friday at Midnight and be on sale through Sunday at 11:59PM. You’ll have 72 hours to buy.

  8. Philip Gardner

Wow, that Ansin one looks amazing! Super glad it will be available on a timed sale, I always seem to miss these, only to find them being resold on eBay minutes after they are sold out! Thanks!

  9. Jon

This so great…awesome prints. I love the fact that I KNOW I will have Ansin’s print on my wall soon. Of course it will be a larger run, but it’s all about the art not the exclusivity of the prints (for me at least)

Please do more timed releases…maybe keep the variants limited to a certain amount?

In any case keep the great art coming…love it. Oh by the way summer is coming….do I hear John Williams tuba approaching…..s l o w l y.

  10. Robert

Whats the best way to find out when the Metal will be available? Twitter? And if so, is @MondoNews correct?
    Very excited.

    1. Eric

Robert – Yes, please follow us on Twitter (@MondoNews) and we will announce when the metal variant is on sale.

      1. Ian Eleria

Just a little confused, but on the combined shipping statement, does that mean combined shipping of Ansin’s MOS cannot be made for multiple purchases? or does it only apply for anything else OTHER than MOS? If ever, they will be shipped individually only? thank you.

        1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Ian, no combined shipping requests of any kind will be honored. Both for multiple orders, and for any other poster. All poster orders will be shipped individually.

  11. Paul

Hi, I know you say there’s no combined shipping on the Ansin print with anything else, does this apply to buying multiple copies of the same print? Would seem a bit much to charge postage on each copy ordered…

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Paul, I know it seems simpler to combine orders but it adds a significant amount of time to combine and refund postage. We will not be allowing combined orders of any kind for the timed edition, including multiple copies.

  13. Andrew

So just to make sure I have everything straight, the regular Ansin poster will be available for purchase over the weekend, but the limited metal poster will only be available on Friday at a random time, and only until the 130 are sold out?

  14. Robert

Very excited to try to get that metal variant.
Anybody on here ever get one of those? Are they heavy? Do you need a special frame to display them?

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

Ansin’s will be a screen print. I do not know the paper stock off hand, but typically we print on French Paper.

  15. Stevanus

Hi.. So happy for the two of them.. My question is, if both pictures already seen by scale via internet and anyone can make a copies of that by themselves.. What’s the good factor for us who already purchased for more expensive and the difference maybe? Thank you so much..

    1. Eric

We do not make available hi-res versions of our posters for the very reason of protecting them against reproduction. While this may not deter all from reproducing illegal bootlegs of our posters, it does hinder them. Also, screen prints are known for their unique texture as you can actually feel the ink that is printed on the paper. This is something that would be impossible to reproduce.

Further, all of our posters are hand numbered. No reproduced copies/bootlegs would be numbered out of our edition. I hope this helps suppress any nerves while also instilling pride in owning a poster you purchase directly from us.

  16. Daniel Witkin

I’m sorry as I know you’ve answered this 1000 times already but the regular $50 Ansin print will go on sale first thing Friday morning and will remain on sale until Monday? With no concern that it will be sold out? I just want to make sure before I stay up until 1am Friday morning EST. Essentially if you buy one regardless of when, you’re guaranteed to get one..correct?

    1. Mo Shafeek Post author

      Hi Daniel,

The $50 Ansin print will go on sale first thing Friday morning (12:00AM CST) It will never sell out, but simply stop being on sale after 72 hours (11:59PM Sunday) Everyone who purchases one is guarantee a print. You don’t have to wait up until 1AM to purchase. You can wait until you wake up :)

  17. Marshall Copous

Sorry I didn’t get a reply… Will the timed Ansin print be available for gallery pick-up?

  18. Sean

Was it just me? or did the metal variant sale act wonky? I was ready instantly to buy, yet its instantly out of stock, then back in stock, then immediately out of stock, all within 5-8 seconds..

    1. Eric

Hi Brian – I apologize if your question was deleted. Yes, our MAN OF STEEL posters are indeed officially licensed.
