This is your pal Justin from Mondo in Austin, TX. Just a heads up, TROLL 2 and BEST WORST MOVIE are playing in your town tonight and tomorrow as part of the Rooftop Films series. You can find all information and tickets here. I’m not gonna lie and say “It’s almost sold out. Better hurry!” because I’m really not sure if it is or not, but based on everywhere else this movie plays, it does sell out…so I guess you better hurry and get tickets if you want to go. Better safe than sorry.
Not only will these movies be playing, but select cast members will be there including star of TROLL 2 and director of BEST WORST MOVIE Michael Stephenson.
If that isn’t enough, we will be debuting our brand new TROLL 2 shirt at the show and giving you all a chance to be the first to buy it!
Hit Michael and the TROLL 2 gang up at the Best Worst Movie site and also on Twitter and let them know what you think!
Forget paying you Tuesday for a burger today. Wimpy would straight up murder someone right now for this bed!
Several months ago, Kayla Kromer attended an after hours screening here at the Alamo of a movie called HAMBURGER: THE MOTION PICTURE.
While watching that movie, Kayla was hit with inspiration as the dorms at BusterBurger U. didn’t have bunk beds or cots or any of the shitty beds that we were all used to sleeping on in college. Nope. They slept in GIGANTIC HAMBURGERS with cheese as blankets and pickles as pillows. Kayla spent the next two months creating the ultimate in food/comfort and then when it was revelaed, it literally broke the internet. It was front page on DIGG, was featured on 100′s of blogs and in dozens of magazines, the funniest being a US Weekly issue where Jessica Simpson was proclaiming “I’m not fat!” on the cover. It couldn’t have been featured in a better issue.
Kayla has recently had a few personal problems and needs to let go of the bed. Last night she put it up on eBay with a starting bid of 1 cent and as of me writing this it’s already up to over 300 bucks! Want this Hamburger for your bed?! Click on the pic below and plunk down some cash!
About two months ago, we worked with 2009 Fantastic Fest artist Jon Vermilyea to make a shirt for one of the best horror movies ever made, THE DEADLY SPAWN. Said shirt was a big success and sold out. Lately, we’ve been getting several emails asking, “When will you be doing more shirts with Jon?” To answer that question, I say soon. Jon has probably two or three more shirts coming up in the near future not counting the 2009 Fantastic Fest shirt and poster. To hold you over until then, we’ve decided to release this shirt in two more colorways…BLACK and SLIME.
We’re also super excited about our brand new Badass Cinema shirt. ZOMBIES! Not just ZOMBIES, but PUNK ZOMBIES! Zombies are wild to begin with, but add a punk rock soundtrack to the mayhem and forget about it!
A great tradgedy struck us all yesterday as the undisputed King of Pop was taken from us at the age of 50.
We had a last minute tribute show to honor the King last night and to say the least…it was EPIC! We’ve scheduled more shows for tonight and this weekend and have also decided to bring out our commemorative Michael Jackson shirt one last time!
This shirt is going to be super limited and only available here at Mondo! Click on the shirt above to purchase!
I REALLY wish I would’ve found out about this earlier, cause I’d be leaving on a jet plane right now!
Double Punch in San Francisco is having a show that is running from June 20th-July 19th called I HAVE THE POWER. I can only imagine the crazy shit the artists involved will do for this massive Masters of the Universe tribute show. Anyone going to this?
If you don’t live in San Francisco, don’t get too bummed. Double Punch will start putting artwork up for sale on the site on Monday the 22nd. Best believe I’ll be on there. Hopefully nobody snags this Orko painting before then!
It’s like a poster buffet over here today. Hope you have a big appetite.
First up we have the Glow in the Dark NIGHT OF THE CREEPS poster by Jon Smith. This bad boy is hand numbered, 24×36 and printed at D and L screenprinters out of Seattle, WA.
Next up we have round two in the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW poster set. Ken Taylor returns to blow holes in your wall with the tag team of Columbia and Frank-N-Furter. As with the first set, the cut set measures 12×36 and the uncut set measures 24×36. This print is four color, hand numbered and was printed at D and L screenprinters.
Last, we have this crazy THE GOONIES poster by Drew Millward. This measures in at 18×24, hand numbered and is printed at D and L. Really, how nuts is the Gold parchment variant?! There are only 30 of the variant, so move now. As of now, we’ve already sold around 10. Don’t miss out!
If you don’t know who Frank Henenlotter is, click HERE right now. If you’re into horror movies, you’ll love him as this guy was killing it in the 80′s. Literally.
Today’s murder Monday is from BRAIN DAMAGE.
Anyone recognize the voice of Aylmer the drug pushing alien? It’s horror host Zacherley!
Henenlotter also did cool things like cross characters over from his other movies. For instance, you can see the man holding the basket from BASKET CASE riding the subway in BRAIN DAMAGE. Never seen BASKET CASE? Well, here’s a clip dubbed in Italian:
(If anyone knows if this prop still exists, get ahold of me. No joke, I’ll pay whatever you want for it.)
Check Henenlotter’s movies out. You won’t be disappointed.
I’m sure that most of the people that read this blog have already seen DRAG ME TO HELL. Word on the street(street changed its name to internet a long time ago) is that Mr. Raimi has made his triumphant return to directing horror. Without any debate or question, he is a GREAT director, but I think he needs to get more respect as an actor. He has really become kind of a Dick Miller type of guy with me. I love it when I’m watching something and he’s a newscaster or a security guard or someting.
So, in this speical Raimi Edition of Murder Monday, I thought I’d show you some of the best non-Raimi directed deaths involving the man of honor. Come on…It’d be way too easy for me to go on youtube, type in EVIL DEAD and pull off all of the best kills from the trilogy and put them in here. That’s just lazy though, right?
First up is one of my favorite horror movies…INTRUDER. Sure, this kill isn’t so hot because it cuts away, but you later get to see him hanging from the hook. There are lots of great kills in this movie though. Seriously, if anyone knows Scotty Spiegel, please let him know that there is a dude in Austin, TX that is obsessed with his career. Besides directing INTRUDER, he wrote and directed the best FROM DUSK TIL DAWN film in the series (2), co-wrote EVIL DEAD 2 with Raimi and even wrote the insanely under appreciated Lustig jam, HIT LIST. I love you, Scotty!
Next we have MILLER’S CROSSING. I love this scene even though the audio is WAY out of synch in this clip:
And last but certainly not least, a movie that I urge you to rent, order or borrow immediately…STRYKERS REVENGE aka THOU SHALT NOT KILL…EXCPEPT! This movie is so great! It’s by far Sam’s best performance and without a doubt his best death scene. Luckily, whoever posted this clip included every scene from the movie with Raimi in it, so it’s like the Castle Films version of TSNK…E!
Almost forgot about the Murder Monday post, but I’ve got my priorities in order. To kind of apologize for my tardiness, I’m going to give you like 175 murders in one post instead of just one measly murder.
If you haven’t seen MANIAC COP 2 because it isn’t on DVD, quit being a lazy jerk and go find the VHS copy and watch it. It’s WAAAAY better than the first MANIAC COP and MC1 is pretty hard to top. I’m not going to write about why you should watch this…the tasty clip above speaks for itself.
Three years ago at a comic book convention in Kansas City, KS I met Robert Z’ Dar and he invited me back to his hotel room to drink wine with him. I don’t remember the circumstances, but I had to turn him down…that has seriously been my only regret up to this point in life.
If the above clip doesn’t make you want to see this movie, the MANIAC COP rap over the end credits definitely will…ENJOY!
