PIE SLICE BAKERY!!!!!
Dammit, I’m not a thin man and learning about PIE SLICE BAKERY pretty much sealed the deal for me staying that way. To make things worse, it’s like two blocks away from Mondo….and it’s on the way to work! Not only do they have insane baked goods like cupcakes, cheese cake and, well, pies…they also have breakfast tacos and pizza! Seriously, I’ll probably be hitting this place up at least 2 times a week as it has become my new favorite restaurant in town!
Scarecrow Video itself isn’t new to me, but their blog is! I’ve been there several times and have lots of friends that work there, but had no idea they were kings of the blogosphere! One post in particular really blew me away. It broke down every movie that even remotely influenced Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. You can read it HERE. I don’t know about you, but when KILL BILL came out, I loved watching the movies that he took inspiration from. Now, thanks to Scarecrow, I can do the same thing with BASTERDS. So, before you go see it again, you can have a mini marathon to get you pumped to blow some Nazi’s away!
ALEX PARDEE AND THE SCARED FRIENDS!!!!!
Look it up on Wikipedia…it’s a fact. ALEX PARDEE IS COOL AS FUCK. Just when I thought this guy couldn’t get any cooler, I get this pic in my email from Mitch Putnam.
Click on the picture to read the full story from Pardee, but to summarize, some crazy dude at his Upper Playground Seattle show came with a razor and started gashing himself across the stomach and wrists spraying blood all over the place. After swearing a lot and saying “no way” out loud over and over again, I went to ZeroFriends and grabbed his SCARED FRIENDS shirt in blue.
In case you don’t remember, Pardee is the mega-horror fan/ super-artist who destroyed the RE-ANIMATOR poster we released in July.
You can also see it hanging in the background of the picture with him posing behind the blood!

Whoa! I woke up this morning and checked out /Film’s Cool Stuff section and our TROLL 2 shirt was up for review. We got a 9.5 out of 10 and even beat out a Funko Sleestak bank! Now that’s a real honor because Sleestak’s rule. I guess it’s official, Nilbog Goblins are in this year.

We released the 2009 Fantastic Fest poster and t-shirt artwork to you about a week ago and the response was tremendous! Now we are offering the Fantastic Fest shirt in a limited edition colorway that will ONLY be available online HERE at MondoTees.com.
Limited to only 50 pieces worldwide, we hope this tides all of you rabid genre hounds over until this years festival.
About two months ago, we worked with 2009 Fantastic Fest artist Jon Vermilyea to make a shirt for one of the best horror movies ever made, THE DEADLY SPAWN. Said shirt was a big success and sold out. Lately, we’ve been getting several emails asking, “When will you be doing more shirts with Jon?” To answer that question, I say soon. Jon has probably two or three more shirts coming up in the near future not counting the 2009 Fantastic Fest shirt and poster. To hold you over until then, we’ve decided to release this shirt in two more colorways…BLACK and SLIME.
We’re also super excited about our brand new Badass Cinema shirt. ZOMBIES! Not just ZOMBIES, but PUNK ZOMBIES! Zombies are wild to begin with, but add a punk rock soundtrack to the mayhem and forget about it!
Way back in March, I announced that we had commissioned Jon Vermilyea to produce artwork for the 2009 Fantastic Fest poster. Every year, the Fantastic Fest programmers go all out attempting to bring you things that you’ve never seen before. To me, the poster should be no different. With monsters being the theme this year, we set out to do something we’ve never attempted before. Instead of having a poster with the normal 2 dimensions that you are all accustomed to, we thought, “Why not up the ante and make it 3?!” Here we are…the day has come…I can’t wait any longer…Behold! This year’s 3D FANTASTIC FEST POSTER!
What do you all think? I can tell you that when I first saw the linework for the poster I said “shit” really loud. When I saw this final with color, I said something much worse.
Many of you might be asking, “Well, if it’s 3D, where are all the red and blue lines?” You will find none of that here. We used a very special process called Chromadepth. With your poster you will receive a pair of glasses. The special specks react with the colors and stretch the image to make it 3 dimensional. You can read more about the process here, but essentially, warm colors shoot out at you and cooler colors fall back into the background. If you have 3D Chromadepth glasses with you right now, feel free to put them on and take a gander. If not, feel free to stop in at the Mondo shop anytime and ask to use ours.
Not only did Jon destroy the poster, he did an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT image for the shirt.

A great tradgedy struck us all yesterday as the undisputed King of Pop was taken from us at the age of 50.
We had a last minute tribute show to honor the King last night and to say the least…it was EPIC! We’ve scheduled more shows for tonight and this weekend and have also decided to bring out our commemorative Michael Jackson shirt one last time!
