We’ve Been Framed: Star Wars

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Today’s “We’ve Been Framed” comes from Tom who was lucky enough to grab the entire Star Wars series, all of which were purchased directly from Mondo. Tom already had an epic collection of Star Wars collectibles which he coupled with the posters to create an insanely cool display.

Bounty Hunters

“My office has gradually turned into a “Star Wars museum” and a lot of my friends and coworkers stop by to check it out every now and then and see what’s new–and sometimes bring their kids or grandkids with them. It makes for a fun work environment, and it inspires creativity and imagination to sit and look around at such a variety of styles from all of my favorite poster artists. Each artist brought something unique to the series and it was fun seeing them all put their own personal spin on the Star Wars universe.”

When asked if he had a favorite from the series, Tom said:

“It would be pretty tough to pick one as the “best” of the series because there are so many great artists to choose from–but if I had to choose a personal favorite, it would be Martin Ansin’s “Wretched Hive.” The work he did on that piece was exceptional, and the metallic variant probably stands out as my favorite single poster from the series. It continues to stop me in my tracks when I walk by and it’s one that I can just stare at and admire over and over again. The sets from Taylor, Moss and Stout all display well together, but my favorite single standalone piece is the one by Ansin.”

Be sure to check out the complete set of photos HERE. Thanks for sharing your amazing home office with us Tom!

If you’d like to have your posters featured on the blog, please send your pictures (at least 700px wide) to Justin (at) MondoTees.com.

It’s Beginning To Feel A Lot Like Naboo

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Is it just me, or am I the only one that LOVES that people keep on thinking up cool new things involving STAR WARS. Looking around today I found a site that tells the weather in your city in terms of locations in the STAR WARS films. For instance, Mondo HQ is in Austin and as of writing this, it’s feeling a little bit like Naboo right now.

Then, over Butt-Numb-A-Thon weekend, our local maestro of the mattress Kayla Kromer debuted her follow up to the Hamburger Bed. She based it off of Han’s Millennium Falcon and got REALLY nerdy with the detail. It’s almost exact! She was even recognized by the official STAR WARS website and was a front page story!

And last but not least, there is the AMAZING 70 minute dissection of THE PHANTOM MENACE. I’ve embedded the first piece in this EPIC 7 part review. I’m not going to go into in depth, but set aside 90 minutes, turn your phone off and get ready to roll on the ground laughing.

George Lucas x NASA

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

This weekend, I was hanging out with Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson while they were having their shows in Austin and Houston. On the Houston part of the trip, we had a few hours to kill before Mark’s show started and decided to hit up the Nasa exhibit of “artifacts” from the films of George Lucas.

What really put me over on going to see this was the promise of props from EVERY movie Lucas had ever been involved with including HOWARD THE DUCK! Take a look at the pictures below, but be warned…I refused to take any photos of the INIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL parts. They had Shia Lebouf’s motorcycle and Harrison Ford’s fedora and whip from the movie, but who freakin’ cares…that movie doesn’t exist in my world.

If you’re in Houston, I’d recommend stopping by if for nothing else to read George Lucas’ original notes for STAR WARS. Drastically different from what ended up on screen.
